Ford Galaxy

This is deluxe driving

Ford Galaxy cars offer acres of space and loads of top tech on top models. It’s built for living, featuring 7 ergonomic seats for maximum comfort, plus a versatile interior for improved luggage space. The Ford Galaxy does more than tick boxes, and it’s reliable too.

The Ford Galaxy is a large multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) produced by Ford of Europe since June 1995. It was the first Ford-brand MPV produced and marketed outside of North America, the model line is currently in its third generation.

The Ford Galaxy works as a great family car because of its flexible interior, civilised road manners, surprising economy and excellent refinement. Common questions are how many seats are in Ford Galaxy or is Ford Galaxy a 7 seater? It has 7 seats, and a 5 seat mode – perfectly versatile.

Being a product of Ford means there are many Galaxy engines to choose from. Most are powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine of either 118, 148 or 178bhp outputs, and the 207bhp twin-turbo version. Revisions in 2018 tweaked the latter two to 187bhp and 237bhp respectively. There’s also a choice of 158bhp 1.5-litre (revised to 163bhp in 2018) or 237bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines.

The Galaxy is 4,848mm long, 1,916mm wide and 1,747mm tall in height, so it’s a big car. How much is a Ford Galaxy? Prices start from £33,100.

Performance and drive

The Galaxy is good to drive. The standard six-speed manual gearbox is precise and slick, and the optional six-speed automatic react quickly. The handling is excellent for a tall car, making it one of the most agile seven-seat MPVs you can buy. Ride quality is smooth, the suspension works well on smooth surfaces, taking the edge off all but the harshest of bumps.

Four-wheel drive is available with the 150 manual, while the 190 can be had with 4WD with the auto box and in Titanium X trim only.

Interior

Inside it feels supremely spacious, front, middle or rear. The middle row of seats has room for three six-foot adults in reclining chairs that individually slide forwards and backwards. The Galaxy has a bigger boot than most estate cars.

Entry-level comes with 17in alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, climate control, an 8.0in touchscreen system with Bluetooth and DAB radio. Ford’s standard safety and security features include stability control, six airbags, alarm and immobiliser.
