To be successful, it would need to feature advanced driver assistance and a new generation of infotainment. It would need to be bolder, smarter and sharper, without ever compromising on fun. The Kamiq sets a new design standard for Škoda. It combines the higher chassis and rugged appearance of a SUV, with the practicality and comfort of a compact city warrior. In other words, this is a Škoda like no other. It powerfully combines the robust design with signature Škoda styling, a design without compromise.
The Škoda Kamiq has been produced by the Czech car manufacturer Škoda Auto since June 2019, after it debuted at the February 2019 Geneva Auto Show. It is the smallest of the other Škoda SUVs sold in Europe and is based on the concept Vision X, which Škoda first introduced to the public in 2018.
The Škoda Kamiq is one of the best small SUVs you can buy, a fantastic allrounder – few can match its balance of practicality, value and comfort. It comes with all the usual Škoda nifty practical features, like hidden rubber strips that automatically pop out as you open the doors to protect their edges, an umbrella in the door and an ice scraper in the fuel filler cap. Most versions have a removable, rechargeable torch in the boot too.
There is the 94bhp 1.0-litre petrol (badged 1.0 TSI 95), 0-62mph in 12 seconds, 5 gears. 108bhp version (badged 1.0 TSI 110) 0-62mph in 10 seconds with six gears. Or the 148bhp 1.5-litre petrol (1.5 TSI 150), 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds, available in manual and automatic.
Škoda’s trim-level structure is simple, with entry-level S models joined by SE, SE Drive, SE L and Monte Carlo. Entry-level comes well-equipped with 16-inch alloys, LED headlights, roof rails, a leather steering wheel and a 6.5-inch infotainment system.
Performance and drive
The Kamiq is one of the best-riding cars in its class. It handles safely and, with good visibility and a slick manual gearbox. Its engine is a great all-rounder, offering plenty of punch around town and decent refinement at motorway speeds.
Interior
The cabin is well put together, and there’s loads of kit available in each trim. The dashboard layout is easy to understand, and you get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay included as standard on SE cars and above.
It has a flexible cabin with space for five adults and the quality is very good; the Kamiq feels better built and more sophisticated inside than its equivalents.
