The Toyota C-HR is a subcompact crossover SUV. The name C-HR can stand for either Compact High Rider, Cross Hatch Run-about or Coupe High Rider. The production version of the was unveiled at the March 2016 Geneva Motor Show and they started production in November 2016.
The facelifted C-HR was unveiled in October 2019, along with the GR Sport variant of the model and new hybrid engine for Europe, and updated exterior styling including new colour options. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now standard with a slight increase in price overall.
Four trims are available on the C-HR: Icon, Design, Excel and GR Sport. There is a choice of two petrol-electric hybrids for the Toyota C-HR – a 120bhp 1.8-litre, and a 181bhp 2.0-litre. In 1.8-litre it reaches 0-62mph in 11 seconds, the 2-litre option in 8.2 seconds. Both models feature CVT auto as standard, due to the power flow between the petrol engine, electric motor, battery pack and wheels. They are both front-wheel drive only.
Performance and drive
C-HR uses the Toyota New Global Architecture delivering composed handling and a comfortable ride. Steering is well-weighted, and a high driving position gives a good view, making it easy on the road and in corners. The GR Sport has tweaked suspension giving it a little more grip than the regular C-HR, plus more responsive steering.
Interior
The comfortable seating and steering wheel adjust easily, and the interior has plenty of high-grade materials. All C-HRs come with Toyota’s Touch 2 system, with an 8.0in touchscreen positioned high up on the dashboard, making it easy to glance at while driving and has Bluetooth phone connectivity and a DAB radio.
